Sales Engineer – Construction (1802062)

Where the Chemistry Happens

This position will be in our Amherst Office and will lead our Innovative Solutions Team (IST) in sales and technical responsibility by providing our customers with Innovative and Customized Solutions to satisfy their needs. As structures become more complex to address changes to codes, specifier requirements, and Owner in-use flexibility, the need for custom products that meet these requirements is essential. This position will focus on creating custom engineered structural expansion joint solutions based on the most challenging requirements presented by Architects, Engineering Consulting firms, and Owners.

Formula for Success

  • This position will be a key position within the IST, working closely with internal resources, other divisions of BASF and customers, to drive growth in WBA’s large project sales with an initial expected sales increase of $3 million in the first 18 months. Initiate and maintain point of contact responsibility with external customers to facilitate project activity, successful achievement of milestones, and delivery of products and services to customer satisfaction.

  • Acting as point of contact to external customers on assigned projects for all technical matters including developing and validating a project-specific solution using customer supplied design criteria, and presenting each solution to the customer through web-based meetings, written descriptive narrative proposals, and face-to-face meetings. Works with all relative departments to establish work in progress look-ahead schedule that includes, but is not limited to, engineering shop drawing time, anticipated authority review and approval time, procurement lead time, and general fabrication duration to meet customer requirements.

  • Work within general methods and procedures and exercise considerable independent judgment to adapt and apply the guidelines to specific situations. Extensive and effective communication with internal cross functional teams, including Estimating to develop solution costing, Engineering to assist as needed in validating designs, Marketing to develop professional presentations, and Sales to properly coordinate WBA offering. The work requires knowledge of policies, procedures, use of software, personnel policies, and general procedures.
