Seed Health Team Lead (1903584) – Brooks, OR
Where the Chemistry Happens…
The Seed Health Team Lead manages the quality control laboratory for seed health testing to ensure the timely, efficient, and reliable performance of the team. The seed health lab ensures that seed borne pathogens are detected according to established testing methods to manage the risk of plant disease outbreaks and meet the quality expectation from our customers. The team lead develops the quality management system for seed health testing, ensures the availability of labor and equipment capacity, and develops the expertise within the team to provide accurate and reliable testing results.

MANAGEMENT: Establish, implement, and communicate team policies and procedures, and team and individual targets, to provide clear expectations, an efficient and effective team, and a positive working environment.Provide daily direction to ensure smooth execution of routine tests along with planned projects.
TRAINING: Ensure all team members are adequately trained and directed to follow and understand accredited procedures and protocols for consistent test performance according to internal standards and rules and regulations.Define and promote a safe working environment for all employees and contractors.
PERSONNEL DEVELOPMENT: Maintain a qualified and cooperative team by providing clear and constructive feedback to continuously support the professional development of QC technicians.Train, coach, and support the QC technicians to broaden their knowledge, increase problem solving skills, and optimize delegation.
RESOURCES:Monitor and verify that resources (facilities, equipment, operating budget, and personnel) are sufficient to meet business needs.Provide a transparent view of testing capacity.Implement actions necessary to achieve agreed performance targets (safety, quality, efficiency, delivery, and involvement) and communicate gaps to manager and other stakeholders.
PERFORMANCE: Analyze trends, identify risks, and advocate for new and improved processes, methods, and technologies to improve the efficiency and reliability of the functional department. Lead improvement projects both within the team and interdepartmentally.
QMS: Ensure training and proficiency records, equipment maintenance and calibration records, and other documents within the quality management system are accurate and current, and develop new documents and forms as needed to maintain a systematic process approach.
COMMUNICATION:Coordinate with internal stakeholders including international colleagues, to ensure timely performance of testing activities, alignment of global seed health priorities, and a team approach to problem solving.
LAB WORK: Perform repetitive tasks in laboratory as part of the seed health team to understand test methods, identify opportunities for improvements, maintain a strong connection to the team, and contribute to the lab’s output.
· Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences or related is required and we prefer a Master's Degree in plant pathology or microbiology
· Minimum 3 years’ experience working in a biological laboratory setting
· Experience in quality control testing preferred
· Seed industry experience preferred
· Supervisory experience preferred
· Team leadership experience
· Detail and quality oriented
· Strong analytical skills
· Proactive decision making
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Strong in Microsoft Excel
