Director of Sustainability, NA – Florham Park, NJ (1803008)
As the Director of Sustainability Director for North America, you will lead the development and execution of a region-wide, strategic sustainability initiative, ensuring that the company’s sustainability effort enhances business performance and supports the long-term success of the company. Under the direction of a member of the North American Executive Committee, the Director will partner with regional leadership to enable BASF to develop commitment, culture, and capability to integrate the complex topic of sustainability into innovative business models and daily operations. Specifically, this role will lead a team to establish sustainability as a profitable growth driver in North America by supporting the businesses as they more effectively leverage sustainability in their strategies, marketing and sales efforts, engage and inspire BASF employees to be ambassadors for sustainability, and ensure the BASF corporate sustainability brand is differentiated in the marketplace via compelling messaging.
The Director of Sustainability demonstrates executive level sustainability commitment with impact to both internal and external stakeholders and is accountable for sustainability program implementation across BASF in North America. The Director serves as the spokesperson to BASF’s customers, policy makers and markets in the region and will be responsible to develop executive level relationships with the Chief Sustainability Officers at our key customers and suppliers. The Director will also lead the effort to develop sustainability driven growth programs that leverage novel technologies and business models.

Formula for Success
Leveraging your knowledge of environmental and social sustainability opportunities/challenges along key industry value chains, you will be responsible for the formation and leadership of the North American Sustainability Community (NASC).
As a team leader, you will be responsible for the development of the sustainability strategy, tools, programs, policies, and procedures to meet BASF’s sustainability commitments.
Your ability to work well within a cross-functional, multi-Business Unit, and matrixed business environment will serve you well as you collaborate with internal groups to develop coordinated sustainability plans.
Leveraging your business, operations, and corporate sustainability experience, you will serve as internal leader and ‘go to’ expert for sustainability, monitoring emerging trends, programs and issues.
As the company spokesperson on sustainability issues, you will facilitate external and internal communications and lead the interface with any and all government agencies and departments.
As the regional representative for global sustainability leadership and communities, you will maximize alignment between regional and global sustainability strategy implementation plans/activities.
You will measure and monitor progress against sustainability strategies, objectives and performance targets as well as ensure that appropriate internal KPIs are established by business to support sustainability efforts.
