Sr. Instrument and Controls / SIS Engineer (1902485) – Geismar, LA

Where the Chemistry Happens

We are seeking a professional like you for this safety and reliability-focused Instrument & Control Systems / SIS Engineering role. This is a long-term and strategic-focused position where you will have responsibility to drive maintenance, reliability, asset availability and safety performance, utilizing the most appropriate and effective tools and techniques across the Chemical & Intermediates (CI) business unit.

Formula for Success

  • Leveraging your bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Chemical Engineering and your related engineering experience in either a chemical/petrochemical or refinery operation, you will provide advanced technical support and troubleshooting expertise to Operations, Maintenance, and the Construction organization.

  • Employing your strong knowledge of Engineering Standards and best practices from ISA 84 or IEC 61508/11 and your technical knowledge of instrumentation, electrical, controls, and mechanical equipment, you will provide oversight and technical support to Capital projects during FEL, detailed design & engineering, construction, and commissioning.This includes the review and sign-off on Instrument & Control IFA/FC packages and support of FAT/SAT Commissioning activities.

  • Your Safety Instrumented System (SIS) Engineer certification or familiarization with safety instrumented systems will be a valued asset as you supervise the design, specification, application, installation, and testing of Safety Instrumented Systems across CI.This includes participating in PHA’s, LOPA’s, HAZOP’s, & Functional Safety Assessments / Safety Integrity Level (SIL) Studies, overseeing the development of test plans, Proof test procedures, Safety Requirements Specifications, Cause & Effect diagrams, logic narratives, SIS hardware/software configuration, and inspection, Factory & Site Acceptance Testing (FAT/SAT), loop checks, commissioning & startup support, and auditing and providing assurance that SIS designs meet both project and corporate specifications, as well as industry standards.

  • Demonstrating your strong working knowledge of Instrumentation, Process Control, Fire & Gas, Safety Instrumented Systems (Triconex/HIMA), Distributed Control Systems (i.e. Foxboro/DeltaV), PLC’s (i.e. Allen Bradley), & Boiler Management Systems, you will diagnose I/O related issues within Safety PLCs and remote IO systems.

  • Your robust analytical thinking will serve you well as you assure proper design, installation, and repair of instrument and control equipment in assigned areas while identifying opportunities / improvements that will increase productivity, process repeatability, reduce cost and risk of employee exposure.

  • Successfully engaging inside and outside the organization, you will work collaboratively with onsite technical groups (Capital Projects, Maintenance, Process), Corporate technical networks & peers, and vendors/suppliers as needed for issue resolution.

  • Your strengths in taking initiative, team leadership, and coaching will be essential as you provide leadership and disciplined guidance to less experienced engineers, technicians, maintenance, and production teams.

  • Utilizing your keen attention to detail, you will assist with the development of Critical Equipment lists and Critical Spares Inventory.

  • Your solid knowledge of SAP and how it is used to track costs and maintenance history will aid you in implementing reliability best practices, developing and optimizing preventative and predictive maintenance tasks, while supporting field maintenance activities.

  • Working with a strong understanding of best practices for maintenance processes, you will be responsible for the interpretation and adherence to BASF Technical Standards, industry standards, and applicable regulatory and design codes, as applicable to specific projects.
