Where the Chemistry Happens…

Production Associate – HD Prep, (2102161) – Huntsville, AL

The Production Associate for HD Prep will work closely with HD Prep and Coating supervision, as well as the slurry prep and coating operations team to ensure that departmental goals and objectives are achieved. The HD Prep department consists of 1 supervisor, 2 production associates, and approximately 10 to 15 chemical and lead chemical operators. The slurry prep team is responsible for producing good quality slurry and delivering it on-time to the HD Coating Department. The prep team also performs slurry transfers, drum / tank movements, and overall management of slurry heel / rinse water remainder process.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary backup for the HD Prep Supervisor. Must be able to learn and perform all operational functions of the HD Prep Supervisor

  • Learn how to manage and coordinate slurry prep activities as they relate to Cat-Track scheduling system. Will coordinate slurry approval, adjustment, and remake activities to ensure that the coaters are supplied on-time with good quality slurry.

  • Communicate and collaborate with Logistics on coordinating coating runs on Cat-Track scheduling software.

  • Review slurry process order variances as needed with the Inventory Analyst and Supervisor. Make corrections as needed to solve variance issues.

  • Communicate and collaborate with the coating Production Associate to ensure that ready-to-coat slurry is available to coating operations as scheduled.

  • Communicate and collaborate with Analytical Lab personnel on data discrepancies and/or sample priorities.

  • Communicate and collaborate with Process Engineering on problem slurry batches and sample deviations.

  • Become an expert with the HD Prep electronic batch ticket. Will perform routine audits of slurry batch ticket accuracy and work with slurry prep operators to ensure that batch tickets are filled out fully and correctly.

  • Ensure that batch ticket information is transferred accurately, fully, and timely into SAP. Monitor and audit batch ticket keying into SAP by the prep operations team.

  • Coordinate and hand out daily shift assignments

  • Submit general work notifications and create reservations in SAP.

  • Work in SAP to manage rinse waters, slurry drums, and slurry tank inventories. Work closely with the HD Inventory analyst, HD Prep Supervisor, and HD PM Accounting to maintain inventories accurately and to ensure that SAP electronic inventory matches actual physical inventory.

  • Work with prep operators / temps to manage the slurry drum in-process areas and the slurry drum pad. Areas must be organized, and drum counts should be kept to a minimum.

  • Will support routine PM Inventory Activities with HD PM Accounting. Will also support routine PM vault audits and processes.

Basic qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required

  • Minimum 3 years of experience with slurry batch manufacturing and / or refining operations

Preferred qualifications:

  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills

  • Exhibit excellent communication and organizational skills

  • Working knowledge of PC based software and computer systems. Good MS Excel skills preferred

  • Strong knowledge of Precious Metal accounting and control concepts

  • Proficient in SAP

  • Demonstrates the ability to influence others and collaborate for achievement. This will be primarily encountered through daily interactions with internal team members

  • Collaboration will also be required by supporting process improvements and small project team activities

  • Must have good training skills

  • Must eventually become a member of the HAZWOPER team.

  • Ability to make, update and analyze databases

  • Ability to fulfill a leadership role in the absence of the contact supervisor

Work environment/Physical demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.

  • The employee is occasionally exposed to airborne particles and vibration.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, and feel as well as to reach with hands and arms.

  • The employee is frequently required to stand and sit.

  • The employee is occasionally required to walk.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

  • The use of personal protection equipment is required such as hearing protection, safety glasses, safety shoes, and gloves.

  • This position is currently planned for a 24/5, 8-hr rotational structure but employees need to be able to work any and all shifts including rotations between day and night shift. Shift types and scheduling in this role may be subject to change. Incumbents must be able to work assigned overtime as required.
