The Global Procurement division is responsible for BASF's purchasing activities worldwide. We negotiate contracts that provide BASF with tangible added value. Our focus is on the procurement of raw materials, technical goods and services as well as logistics solutions. Our comprehensive market know-how and deep understanding of value-adding chains make us a valuable partner for the operating divisions.

What you can expect

At that position, located in our BASF's Global Procurement department, you will be part of the Center of Excellence - Advanced Analytics & Risk Management. You will do scientific research at the interface between economic theory and its practical application focusing on "The impact of multi-sourcing restrictions on the success of negotiations in procurement".

  • As a Doctoral Candidate you're supported by an experienced advisor from University of Cologne and a game-theory expert at BASF who himself holds an industry-sponsored PhD.

  • You develop mathematical models to compare multi-sourcing strategies with other risk-mitigating measures.

  • You develop a decision support system to implement data-based and advanced decision making in procurement practice.

  • Futhermore you analyze and design auction processes to optimally integrate multi-sourcing restrictions in negotiations.

  • You closely work together with colleagues from Advanced Analytics and Global Procurement to support in the preparation and conduction of strategic procurement negotiations.

What we expect

  • Master degree in the field of (Applied) Mathematics, Economics, Operations Research, Business, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science or a similar background

  • Familiar with game theoretical methods and interested in data analysis

  • Professional experience or a background in Supply Chain Management, Risk Management, Procurement, Sales and/or Consultancy is beneficial

  • Communicate in both German and English

  • Eager on both developing theoretical models and applying economic theory in practice
