Lead Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Manager (2103502) – Parma, ID

Where the Chemistry Happens

We are seeking a Lead HSE Manager for our Vegetable Seeds sites in Parma, ID. This role will lead a team to carry out the following responsibilities:

  • Compliance with Governmental, BASF and AP regulations and requirements regarding Responsible Care (EHS)

  • Driving prevention of incidents related to human health, safety and environment

  • Driving a culture of incident and injury free workplace and limited risks

  • Drive Governmental and BASF / AP mandatory EHS regulations, requirements and programs and facilitating the implementation at the APV sites

  • Steering the development, implementation and continuous improvement of Responsible Care related topics and the Vegetable Seeds Responsible Care Management System across APV sites

  • Drive implementation, maintenance and improvement of the APV Responsible Care Management System at the sites, embedded in the overall Integrated Management System. Reports on the EHS- and RC performance and escalates when needed to the Country Head and the Global Head of Responsible Care

  • Functionally supervises, guides, leads the HSE/RC Experts and teams located at the sites

  • Interface with the AP Global EHS organization, ensuring program consistency and sharing best practices across the country

  • Drive sustainable Occupational Safety and Process Safety measures and initiatives at all the operating sites

  • Establish in conjunction with the Country Representative and each site manager, the HSE services necessary to achieve the aligned goals of the business

  • Manage and coordinate HSE resources and talent to ensure all requirements are met in the best interests of BASF

  • Implement and support the principles of HSE / Responsible Care (RC) / state / local / country regulatory / BASF guidelines at the Vegetable Seeds sites in ID, CA, and OR

  • Support other country sites in areas of RC preparation, management and implementation

  • Takes lead in managing RC audits and spot checks, following up on recommendations and final implementation

  • Comply with local, regional, BASF regulations, law, procedures, protocols

  • Various contacts in and outside the organization

Support and adhere to the principles of safety / Responsible Care®

  • Ensure that all necessary measures for current and future “License to Operate” are implemented and adhered to

  • Protecting the health, safety, security and environment of our employees, contractors, distributors, visitors, customers and neighbors

  • Keep positive site reputation internally and externally

Responsible Care®(RC®) and local law/BASF requirements

  • Responsible for RC® and that all activities are done in line with state / local / regulatory / BASF requirements

  • Develop, implement, and maintain a site-specific RC® management system

  • Create common sense/awareness related to Responsible Care®

  • Ensure resources (financial and HR (people)) for implementing RC® are identified and available on site

  • Management review annually and identify plans to meet RC® requirements

HSE perspective

  • Ensure site safety is under control, KPIs in alignment with BASF and VS goals

  • Accountable to identify and implement HSE site specific targets

  • Accountable for site Emergency response preparedness

  • Accountable for site reporting in the following BASF data bases: REHSA , Stature, RC Audit and Global Incident

RC Performance of the plant

  • Set and monitor the RC performance of the sites; provide vision, structure and direction of the site, based on BASF core competencies and compliant regulations

  • Develop and implement in collaboration with stakeholders operating policies and procedures

Formula for Success

  • Have the appropriate level of authority to carry out any duties or responsibilities associated with the role

  • Right level of leadership in establishing and communicating site specific targets and developing a positive culture

  • Knowledge of country legislations and regulations

Ingredients for Success

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred. Degree in technical discipline (Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental Science, etc.) is preferred

  • Minimum 8 years experience in implementation of environmental, health and/or safety programs in a manufacturing environment is desired.

  • Experience directly managing others required

  • Leadership, coaching, entrepreneurial drive, results orientation, strategic thinking, influencing, persuasiveness, and negotiating skills are essential.

  • Expertise in how EHS is executed in operations and how programs impact overall performance required
