Lead Site Manager (2103245) – Parma, ID

Where the Chemistry Happens

The Lead Site Manager will be responsible for providing leadership, vision, direction, focus and guidance to site maintenance, facilities, security, contractors, and capital projects for the company.

This position is accountable for ensuring the sites adhere to all the principles of Responsible Care, State regulations, Local regulations, and BASF guidelines. This position ensures all facilities in the country are maintained in working order according to BASF and local standards. It assures business operational continuity for both the short and long term and drives continuous improvement initiatives working to achieve the best-in-class capital project development, execution, maintenance reliability, and organizational performance. In addition, the Lead Site Manager will provide regional support for large capital project management and serve as the Leader of the Site Managers Community to ensure the guidelines of Responsible Care and other relevant information flows seamlessly amongst all Vegetable Seed regional sites. This position serves as the primary site interface and leads the Site Management team in collaboration with regional business colleagues.

Formula for Success

  • Responsible for leading the Maintenance and Site Services teams at Parma, ID site

  • Direct, plan, coordinate and supervise the facility management & maintenance activities in the company

  • Support Preventative Maintenance programs

  • Work in collaboration with operations to implement and execute corrective and preventative maintenance programs of equipment, machines in the plant.

  • Direct the implementation and execution of maintenance programs (corrective and preventative) for buildings, site infrastructure, building systems and asset management in accordance with BASF responsible care and industry best practices and standards.

  • Effectively manage contractors within the site function including site maintenance, utilities, security, and specialty services used for projects, maintenance outages, and special initiatives.

  • Accountable for site readiness and for maintaining the license to operate.

  • Establish site managers community among other Vegetable Seeds (APV) sites in region where Site Manager is located.

  • Work with HSE to ensure all activities within the organization are aligned with and supportive of the site’s journey to EHS excellence.

  • Support and adhere to principles of Responsible Care.

  • Monitor Responsible Care performance of the sites, provide vision, structure, and direction and overall guidance.

  • Approve work instructions and procedures based on Management of Change (MOC) principles.

  • Support the Responsible Care audit preparation and provide adequate guidance to the business and HSE functions.

  • Provide project development, support, and management.

  • Manage issues and projects in accordance with relevant legal.

  • Provide resources to regional sites for large capital projects.

  • Provide timely coordination and reporting to end users prior to, during, and after services are provided. Conduct feedback communications to measure the level of satisfaction among internal customers.

  • Liase with BASF’s governmental affairs department to keep informed of the changing regulations and legislations.

  • Be the face of the site at Parma towards regulatory and local authorities

Ingredients for Success


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, preferably in an engineering or technical field


  • Minimum 8 years of leading people and managing experience in areas such as site management, project management, operations management, and plant and site maintenance.

  • Demonstrated experience managing capital projects in the range of several thousand dollars an up-to multi-million construction and equipment installation projects.

  • Managing budgets and maintaining KPIs


  • Strong leadership & capable to set priorities, to inspire and motivate people

  • Sound technical and engineering understanding

  • Good communication, planning and organizing skills

  • Good Responsible Care knowledge preferred

  • Excellent knowledge of regional/global technical site services

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Good networking skills

  • Strong technical and economical competence (e.g., site or plant management)

  • Working knowledge of computer programs such as MS Office and databases

  • Knowledge of country, state legislations and regulations

  • Right level of leadership in establishing and communicating site specific targets and developing a positive culture

  • High level of decision-making responsibility as it relates to budget, project management, capital, and facilities.
