Sr. Project Manager (2103092) – Port Arthur, TX

Where the Chemistry Happens

We are seeking a professional like you to join our team and be responsible for the development and execution of capital project improvements within our operating units at the Port Arthur, TX site. As a Sr. Project Engineer you will work complex project up to $25M total installed cost. You will work closely in teams consisting of Operations, Technology, Design, EHS, Business Unit and Procurement personnel to ensure the safe and effective implementation of plant expansion, process debottlenecking, and infrastructure improvement projects.

Formula for Success

  • Leveraging your education in in Engineering or other related technical discipline, and your experience working in a chemical, petrochemical or manufacturing environment, you will develop and maintain partnerships with assigned project manufacturing representatives to execute projects from initial scoping and funding, through detailed engineering and procurement, to startup and commissioning, and then final documentation and closure.

  • Relying upon your experience as Project Manager for capital or expense projects, you will utilize applicable value-based reviews to optimize project scope and costs, as well as develop project scope, generate cost estimates, and prepare appropriation funding requests. You will also seek compliance with all environmental, safety, and health requirements, and promote a safe working environment for project execution.

  • Utilizing your practical working knowledge of chemical processes, process equipment, and general project execution in a team environment, you will coordinate required process, design engineering and design resources, from the site or corporate groups and outside engineering vendors, as well as prepare engineering design deliverables and procure equipment, fabricated materials, and services.

  • Applying your in-depth knowledge of project management processes and project execution best practices, you will monitor and support construction activities to ensure that projects are completed according to the design deliverables, quality standards, and plant requirements. You will also ensure that pre-startup safety reviews are conducted, providing occasional support as a discipline engineer for assigned projects, as well as promote identification of lessons learned from completed projects to improve work practices.

  • Your working knowledge of SAP or a similar enterprise project software will be essential, as you maintain SAP project data entries, monitor project progress through scheduling and other tools, perform project status reporting, as well as control spending through appropriate tracking, forecasting, and adjustments.

  • Demonstrating your excellent interpersonal skills, you will participate and contribute on engineering discipline teams via ad hoc assignments with other Site and North America engineers to review, update, and develop project management procedures, guidelines, standards, and practices. You will also mentor and coach less experienced engineers, including participants in the Professional Development Program.

  • Your unique ability to innovate and sell ideas to improve the cost, schedule, and execution of projects will be highly valued, as you prepare specifications, issue requisitions, evaluate bids, and deal with vendors. You will also work with Procurement and comply with applicable guidelines, while adhering to corporate and plant requirements for equipment and materials specifications and vendor preferences.

  • Displaying exceptional organizational skills, you will request necessary construction and commissioning resources from Construction and others to install the scope of work, as well as follow through to ensure that Operations achieves a successful project startup, and that any project-related action items are completed. You will also close projects per guidelines, and ensure proper documentation of files, records, databases, and drawings to meet regulatory and BASF requirements.
