Turnaround Director - Port Arthur, TX (2001812)

Where the Chemistry Happens

The Turnaround (TAR) Director leads all aspects of the Port Arthur site turnaround activities. This includes the Cracker turnaround occurring at approximately 6-year intervals which is the largest turnaround in BASF Corporation. The position will also lead execution of the derivative unit turnarounds (Pygas, & C4 Complex) which occur during intervening years. The position is responsible for the preparation, execution, and post shutdown phases of all turnarounds to enable fulfillment of established safety / environmental, quality, schedule, and cost objectives. The TAR Director has the responsibility of leading the Port Arthur site Turnaround organization in capturing the applicable scope elements, developing the strategy, and then executing the turnaround work activities to enable safe and reliable operation of the Operating units between turnarounds.

Formula for Success

  • Leveraging your educational background in Engineering, as well as your extensive professional experience as a leader/supervisor within a Chemical or Refining manufacturing environment, you will lead the Port Arthur TAR Team and applicable site team members through the various stages of TAR planning, execution, and follow-up.

  • You will bring demonstrated experience in organizational transformation and take a leadership role in developing a high-performance TAR organization focused on excellence in Safety, Planning and Execution.

  • Your vast knowledge and experience in SAP and Primavera Project Management is essential for turnaround planning, scheduling, and execution in a refining and/or petrochemical facility. This will allow you to identify concerns, risks, and barriers that could impede undertaking successful turnarounds, and develop countermeasures and contingency actions accordingly as you motivate and challenge to drive high performance.

  • Your demonstrated knowledge of maintenance work execution for all types of crafts will allow you to partnership with the site Asset Management, Reliability/Maintenance, Operations, and Technology teams as you will coordinate scope development and assure successful integration of all Capital Projects to be implemented during site turnarounds.

  • Your leadership experience will allow you to create an inclusive environment which embraces and derives value from diversity as you manage 8 Direct, 60 Indirect Reports and oversight of 1500-2000 contractors (occurring during Cracker Turnaround execution) as well as establish an organization that effectively and safely plans, executes, and concludes the turnarounds while supporting a safety culture in which all accidents are preventable.

  • As a role model, you will provide coaching and guidance to TAR team members for development of skills & capabilities necessary to undertake and fulfill their roles in theTAR organization as well as enable development of competencies needed to implement BASF's strategy.

  • You will develop turnaround budgets and gain funding authorization via applicable value propositions and business case scenarios as well as coordinate interfaces with BASF global Petrochemicals and global Engineering organizations to access expertise to enable successful turnaround execution.

  • You will actively participate as a member of the Port Arthur site Leadership team to assure integration and alignment of turnaround activities into the regular work processes at the site and demonstrate your strong ability to navigate through a matrix organization and a joint venture board.

  • You have excellent communication skills that enable you to lead the TAR team and oversee contractors as well as interface effectively with key stakeholders in operations, technology and commercial teams.
